Permanent Structural Lifting System
Coastal flooding related to storm activity, flash flooding, surface water flooding, and river flooding have been exacerbated by the impacts of climate change and are occurring with greater frequency in communities around the world. Driven by rocketing flood insurance rates, property owners are increasingly looking for solutions to mitigate property damage caused by flooding and to keep insurance fees down.
The FLOODLIFT is an engineered adjustable foundation that also functions as a structural lifting system that is designed for permanent installation in residential, commercial, and industrial structures situated in flood hazard zones. The technology can be installed internally and externally in both new and existing structures and provides on-demand elevations up to 10ft or more in advance of flooding. The system lowers the structure to its normal position once floodwaters have receded.
Other construction options designed to mitigate property damage caused by flooding include pier/stilt foundations. The issue with vaulted foundation designs is they result in the homeowner having to live 10-20 feet above ground 365 days a year in response to a flood risk that may occur once a year, or not at all.
